Iowa Wesleyan accepts transfer credits from community colleges, technical colleges and other universities – even if it has been several years since you were last enrolled. We have a generous credit transfer policy that allows up to 90 credit hours in transfer to apply toward your bachelor’s degree.

We have two pathways to transfer from Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) to Iowa Wesleyan:
Transfer Majors:
The program creates specified Transfer Major Associate Degrees laying out the precise pathway you need to complete your degree at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) prior to transferring to Iowa Wesleyan. You will take general education and major-specific courses at EICC to complete your Associate of Science or Associate of Arts degree. Iowa Wesleyan University has agreed to accept in transfer all of those courses to apply towards your Bachelor’s degree.
Transferring an Associate Degree
An Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree from EICC will fulfill all IW college-wide Wesleyan Studies course requirements except the “Global Awareness” course requirement, the “Writing Intensive” course requirement, the “Service Learning” course requirement, 30 credits of 300 or higher IW course work, and the field experience requirement. A maximum of 90 semester hours will be conferred upon the student..

Generally, a course taken at a regionally accredited university or college, in which the content and depth are similar to a course taught at Iowa Wesleyan, will be accepted for transfer. Courses in which the student has earned a grade below “C-” may not satisfy all University or major requirements.
IW will accept up to 90 semester hours of transfer credit. After you submit your application to IW Online and all official documentation has been received, unofficial evaluation of credit will occur. An official evaluation of credit will occur after your first enrollment at IW.
Students with prior college credits must submit official transcripts from each institution.

Courses taken at a regionally accredited university or college, in which the content and depth is similar to a course taught at Iowa Wesleyan, may be accepted for transfer.
Grades earned in courses accepted for transfer will not be entered on the student’s Iowa Wesleyan transcript and will not be utilized in the computation of a student’s cumulative GPA earned at IW.
The University will accept, within the first 90 semester hours, course credits in which the student has obtained “D” grades as elective credit and Wesleyan Seminar credit only if the student has a 2.0 GPA from the previous University(s).
The University will also accept up to 90 semester hours of university credit from four-year colleges or from a combination of community colleges and four-year colleges, respectively.
Courses in which the student has earned a grade below “C-” may not satisfy all University or major requirements.
An Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree will fulfill the IW-wide Wesleyan Studies course requirements; however, a student with such a degree who has not earned the equivalent of a grade of C- or higher in a second-semester composition course must fulfill this requirement as determined by review of application materials and/or a placement test. Additionally, any course taken as a result of such a review will fulfill the requirement only if it includes a significant research component. Wesleyan Studies Global Awareness course WS 300 Global Issues course, Internship, Service Learning hours (tiered), 30 upper level university credit, and Writing Intensive courses (tiered) are not satisfied by an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree.
Students who have not earned an A.A. or an A.S. degree will earn credit for ENG109 and ENG110 only if the course(s) offered as equivalent(s) have a significant research component (as determined by the registrar) and the student has earned a grade of at least C- in the course(s) offered as equivalent.
Students who have successfully completed one-year programs at approved technical and business institutes will be accorded up to a maximum of 30 semester hours although credits from it may not satisfy Iowa Wesleyan’s general education requirements, and some particular courses may not be accepted toward the major or satisfy all-university requirements.
Typically nursing classes cannot be transferred into the Division of Nursing. Under some circumstances, after careful review, Iowa Wesleyan Undergraduate Catalog – 2020-2021 Page 14 of 182 the Registrar and Chair of the Division of Nursing may agree to award credit to a transfer student for nursing classes from another professionally accredited nursing program such as the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or similar organization.
The institution from which the credits are received must also be regionally accredited from an organization such as the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
The Office of the Registrar is ultimately responsible for the evaluation of all transfer credit. Transfer students will receive a transcript evaluation upon their acceptance into Iowa Wesleyan. Transfer credit evaluations will not reflect courses in progress. Due to articulation agreements, nursing student credit transfer may be handled in a different manner. The credits of transfer students accepted from a non-accredited institution will be evaluated by the Registrar following the successful completion of the initial semester at IW with a 2.0 GPA.
