Secondary Science Degree

The Secondary Science Major is taught by dedicated, experienced educators who are current in the field. This teaching endorsement will prepare you to teach any science class offered in middle or high school.

In a recent survey of area superintendents, “All Science” was the top mentioned endorsement preferred in new hires. Our science curriculum has been aligned to address the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) content. Iowa Wesleyan will prepare you to teach in rural districts, as well as metropolotan areas where more than one content area is required to be taught.

With our Ninth-Semester program, you have the opportunity to complete several endorsements with little extra cost.

  • Develop the knowledge and skills to be successful

  • Expand global cultural awareness through levels of engagement

Teacher Education Program

The baccalaureate Education program at Iowa Wesleyan University is approved and accredited by the Iowa Department of Education and the Board of Educational Examiners.

The U.S. Department of Education has implemented regulations that require Iowa Wesleyan University to make public whether a program will fulfill the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification required for employment in an occupation. Section 207 of Title II of the Higher Education Act mandates that each institution of higher education, which conducts a teacher preparation program that enrolls students receiving Federal assistance under this Act, shall report to the State and the general public the following information:  a) total number of students enrolled in the Teacher Preparation Program (admitted and student teachers); b) number of student teachers; c) total number of supervising faculty for student teachers; d) total number of weeks of supervised student teaching ; and e) average number of hours per week of student participation in supervised student teaching.
