Mount Pleasant, IA – February 28, 2020 — Iowa Wesleyan University (IW) will join Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) to offer an innovative statewide plan designed for students wishing to pursue specific majors. EICC includes the Muscatine Community College, Scott Community College, and Clinton Community College.
The state’s community colleges and public universities have joined forces to create a new Transfer Majors program, with many private colleges joining in as well. This new program creates specified Transfer Major Associate Degrees, laying out the precise course path students complete at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges before continuing to complete their bachelor’s degree at Iowa Wesleyan University.
As part of the IW-EICC agreement, EICC associate degrees accepted for transfer by Iowa Wesleyan include Ag Business, Biology, Business, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Teaching, Elementary Education, Psychology, and Secondary Education. Students transferring with the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Transfer Major degree will have met the general requirements at Iowa Wesleyan University.
For students enrolled in one of the Transfer Major programs, it is similar to that of a student at a four-year college, but they can potentially save money and start their degree closer to home. With a specific course map detailing the classes they will need to take for their first two years, students can also get started knowing they will be ready to transfer seamlessly into their major once they’ve completed their Transfer Major Associate’s degree at EICC.
“Eastern Iowa Community Colleges is committed to making a quality higher education accessible to everyone,” said EICC Chancellor Don Doucette. “We are pleased to work with the state’s public and private colleges to provide this enhanced transfer opportunity to students.”
“Iowa is a leader in higher education with first-rate private institutions, regent universities, and community colleges that have national recognition,” said Iowa Wesleyan Provost Dr. DeWayne Frazier. “The community colleges in Iowa are among the best I have encountered, and I am pleased Iowa Wesleyan is at the forefront of these partnerships. The more opportunities we can provide students to complete their four-year degrees seamlessly only helps enhance our local and regional economies. We are thankful to Eastern Iowa Community College for inviting us to join this initiative.”
Additional majors will be added in the near future. For more information regarding other transfer agreements available at Iowa Wesleyan, visit iw.edu/transfer.
