Iowa Wesleyan University Hosts Annual Nurse Pinning Ceremony
Mount Pleasant, IA – May 4, 2022 — On Friday, April 29, Iowa Wesleyan University celebrated its annual Nurse Pinning Ceremony. This celebration honored seven graduating nursing students, including three Iowa residents and four Illinois residents, as they completed their clinicals and studies and are preparing to enter the workforce.
The nursing pin is worn by nurses to identify the undergraduate nursing program through which they completed their courses. They are traditionally presented to newly graduated nurses by the faculty at the pinning ceremony as a welcome to the profession.
The Iowa Wesleyan Nursing pin has been specially designed for Iowa Wesleyan University graduates, including an image of the Nightingale Lamp and the name and the founding year of the University. This nursing pin denotes the wearer’s dedication to nursing and symbolizes the nurse’s allegiance to their alma mater.
“The nursing pinning ceremony is a meaningful, time-honored, and symbolic welcoming to the profession of nursing held at the time of graduation,” said Dr. Mary Tobin, Chair and Professor of Nursing. “The ceremony is rich with symbolism, and the history can be traced way back to the Crusades of the 12th century. Nearly every nurse can recall their own pinning ceremony as a very meaningful milestone in their life. The Iowa Wesleyan pinning ceremony held in the beautiful Chapel was truly magical, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Congratulations to our 2022 BSN graduates!”
