President Niles served Iowa Wesleyan from 1938 to 1949. The Rev. Stanley Barnum Niles assumed the presidency in 1938. A graduate of Albion and Garrett Theological Seminary with a Ph.D. from Drew, he had served on the Albion faculty and was a district superintendent at Big Rapids in Michigan. His plans to expand previous gains soon faced the shocks that World War II administered to the educational system, followed by post-war expansion and a subsequent decline. National and international events buffeted college life for the next decade. After a ten-year presidency, Dr. Niles resigned on June 4, 1949, to assume work in the southwest.
