President McdowellPresident McDowell served from 1849 to 1850. In 1849 the Iowa Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church accepted the learning institution at Mount Pleasant as a conference school. McDowell had the difficult work of building a new school on the western edge of the United States. He worked to bring new funds to the institution. The school’s rise, however, as a Methodist institution gave Mount Pleasant a new cultural influence in the region.
