Campus Events Policy for 2020 – 2021 Academic Year
The new national COVID-19 guidelines encourage Americans to avoid groups of more than 10 people. Therefore:
- Our spring Commencement ceremony and related activities, such as Baccalaureate and Nurse Pinning, will be rescheduled for a later date. We remain committed to honoring our graduating seniors when it is feasible.
- Our annual Academic Awards ceremony and The Wesleys (Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony) will occur in a virtual format. Those dates and details will be sent out as they are confirmed.
- All other IW events and activities on campus will be postponed or cancelled.
- At this time, all on-campus admissions events and visit days have been suspended. We are offering a virtual visit online in place of on-campus personalized visits. Virtual campus visits can be scheduled at https://www.iw.edu/visit/.
Residence Life for 2020 – 2021 Academic Year
Are students allowed to come back to campus?
As of March 19, we have decided to close our residence halls and dining services effective Tuesday, March 24, at 5:00 p.m.
- Students currently housed on campus need to make arrangements to leave by Tuesday, March 24, at 5:00 p.m. You will be receiving additional communications outlining our move-out procedures.
- Students who were planning to return to campus after spring break are asked to stay home. If there is something in your room that you urgently need to retrieve, please contact our Dean of Students, Dr. Rebecca Beckner, at 319-385-6311.
- Students with extenuating circumstances have the opportunity to apply for a hardship waiver. If you need to apply for a waiver, you must contact our Dean of Students, Dr. Rebecca Beckner, at 319-385-6311 no later than 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21. Students who receive a waiver to remain on campus will be reassigned living quarters to enforce the social distancing mandate, and bagged meals will be provided. The University has prepared housing that is available for quarantine purposes in the event a student on campus is diagnosed with COVID-19.
As social distancing guidelines are lifted, we will communicate future dates when students who are not currently on campus can schedule a time to return and collect their belongings. Until then, buildings will be locked and your personal possessions will be secured in your rooms. Residence halls will be rekeyed to prevent entry during this time. If you are unable to return to campus during these future dates, arrangements will be made with Student Development staff to pack up and store your items until next fall.
Immigration and International Travel for 2020 – 2021 Academic Year
How does this affect me if I am an F-1 student?
- There are no changes to your current status. You will be continuously enrolled in classes and we are in close consultations with immigration and customs enforcement.
If you have any other international student specific questions, please contact the International Office at 319-385-6205 or international@iw.edu.
Does the current U.S. travel restrictions affect our personal international travel?
- A Presidential Proclamation signed on Wednesday, March 11, added the Schengen area (Europe) to the existing restrictions applied to China and Iran on potential travel. This proclamation prevents any nonimmigrant from entering the U.S. directly from an affected country. This means that any international student who travels through China, Iran, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland would have to spend 14 days in some other countries before they could enter the United States. This is true even if you only have a connecting flight in one of these countries. Please keep this in mind as you continue to book your travel.
