Celebrating Spring Commencement at Iowa Wesleyan University
Mount Pleasant, IA – May 4, 2022 — On April 30, 2022, Iowa Wesleyan University hosted its Spring Commencement ceremony to celebrate the graduating class of 2022. More than 100 students were recognized for their accomplishments, including ten graduates in the Master of Arts in Management Leadership program.
During the ceremony, President Christine Plunkett awarded the prestigious Chadwick Teacher of the Year Award to Dr. Jeff Martinek, Division of Humanities Chair and Professor of English. The Presidential Medal for Outstanding Merit was also awarded to Robb Gardner, CEO of Henry County Health Center, who has served the region of Southeast Iowa through his dedicated commitment to quality healthcare for over 25 years.
The President’s Award recipient, Karli Kirchner ‘22, addressed her peers with an expression of the importance of not living only to please others but to reach personal goals for the self. This year’s commencement speaker was Dr. Angela Sadler Williamson, an award-winning copywriter, and international best-selling author. “The first clue is that small steps actually make a long-lasting legacy,” said Dr. Williamson, “but it doesn’t just take small steps; it takes a tribe to help you.” Dr. Williamson shared inspirational moments from her life and the importance of taking small steps with the support of others to build a personal legacy.
