Mount Pleasant, Iowa: January 25, 2019 – In coordination with Black History Month, Iowa Wesleyan’s Criminal Justice department along with the IW Melanin Appreciation Club, is introducing a panel of black professionals on February 4, 2019, at 7 pm in the Social Hall of Iowa Wesleyan University’s Howe Student Activity Center.
“IW is a growing diverse campus community and we felt it was important for faculty/staff, students, and our local community to see a diverse professionals group. A majority of these professionals are alumni of Iowa Wesleyan University are excited to have an opportunity to come back to campus to play a role in supporting our students on our campus,” said Stephanie Stubbs, assistant professor and assistant director of the Criminal Justice Institute. “I was once one of these students and I had no idea what the world would offer me, so being able to bring a black professionals panel to the campus means encouraging other young people’s dreams along with cultivating new ideas for their future.”
Local professionals along with IW alumni on the panel include Dr. Carole Richardson, vice president of academic affairs at Southeastern Community College; Jamarco Clark ’14, director of student life at Indian Hills Community College: LaSharon Taylor, founder & CEO of Tailored Life Counseling MA, LMHC, LPC, IADC; Kimberly Fitten ’07, published author, bloggiest, educator and motivational speaker; Betty Mullin ‘75, Board of Trustees at IW; and Jesse Hill ’07, Burlington Police Officer and SRO Burlington High School. The panel will share their journey to their success along with influential people from history that they have admired.
