POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant or Associate Professor/Coordinator teaches courses in the discipline area of computer and information science. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, create class discussions, engages in active teaching strategies, and showcases real life examples. The Assistant or Associate Professor/Coordinator will also work with Admissions, Information Technology, and other related offices to promote and recruit for the computer science major, create a resource plan to comply with future courses, construct internship possibilities with local partners, and advise computer science students through unique graduation plans.

The faculty member is a highly motivated self-starter and team player with a passion for providing exceptional service to students, colleagues, and the community. This individual will display a high degree of professional judgement, communication, training, and project management skills.  The Assistant or Associate Professor/Coordinator will also cultivate relationships with corporate, civic, non-profit, and other partner organizations.  The faculty member will serve on faculty and university wide committees as needed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assistant or Associate Professor

  • Create curriculum for the computer science program: networking, systems analysis, operating systems, SQL, Website Design, IT security, programming
  • Teach contracted credit hours
  • Assigned committee work
  • Advising computer science students
  • Meet prospective students
  • Office hours
  • Utilize Canvas and faculty portal on a regular basis to portray attendance, grades, course materials, and more
  • Advise computer science students

Coordinator 

  • Work with admissions to create computer science promotional materials
  • Work with admissions to recruit and meet with future potential students
  • Work with Information Technology Office to create a timeline for materials and projects that work with the curriculum of the computer science program
  • Communicate with local businesses on internship, service learning, and projects that students can work with for real life experiences
  • Create course outline for the future rotation through the program
  • Create program changes through data analysis and resources that the University can provide
  • Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Doctorate or terminal degree preferred
  • Teaching and creating curriculum experience
  • Demonstrated ability to perform with a high degree of professionalism in all work settings and functions including all interactions with students, employers, faculty, staff, and alumni
  • Applicants will be both entrepreneurial and customer service oriented and manifest a genuine passion for helping students develop personally and professionally along with a proven ability to build collaborative and highly productive relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, solid planning and organizational skills, high degree of quality and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to assess the learning needs of a diverse student population and to provide effective services with limited resources, work effectively with a broad range of internal and external constituents
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, creative thinking, and communication skills
  • Ability to approach work with an inclusive, holistic mindset and positive, growth-oriented manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to code in a modern environment, strong knowledge of current computer science careers, understand and apply network, operating systems, hardware, database, and software skills through a teaching setting.
