“I had to take some classes that I wasn’t sure would help me in becoming a better nurse but I was wrong. Those courses gave me a new perspective. The combination of classes made me a well rounded nurse.” Shelley’s Favorite Memory of Iowa Wesleyan: “Having my daughter participate in the pinning ceremony. Studying at night and doing homework with my 3 children. Having them see that education is important not only for them but adults also.”
“It’s safe to say that I underestimated the power of reading to change a student’s academic outcome until I took Primary Literacy. It was in Primary Lit that I developed a passion for reading and acquired the belief that all students can learn to read . Through that class and others like Remedial and Diagnostic Reading, I had the knowledge and skills to help me successfully complete my Reading Practicum and make it a positive growing experience. My goal is to obtain a position as a reading specialist or as an educator in a general education classroom. I feel confident that I can provide quality reading instruction in both of those positions.”
“My IW degree in computer science positioned me to secure multiple opportunities in tech over the past 13 years. I started as an intern, Software Engineer, Engineering Manager, and now Director of Engineering. One experience that enhanced my cultural assimilation to the United States was the 200 hours of community services that were required during my attendance at Wesleyan. I met various people and developed a strong understanding of the American way of life.” Bruno’s Favorite Memory of Iowa Wesleyan: “My favorite memories were my daily walks across campus. The IW campus is fabulous and enabled the birth of multiple meaningful friendships. I also have great memories being part of the music community, singing across the country and the world. Lastly, Being a resident advisor provided tremendous opportunities to meet people from all over the world many with who I am still in touch with.”
The music program at Iowa Wesleyan has provided me with so many opportunities. Some of these include pursuing and deepening my passion for performing, and also strengthening my ability as a leader. It has given me a newfound respect for my field and myself, and has led me to friendships that will last for the rest of my life.
Choosing Human Services as my major was one of the best decisions I ever made. This major led me down the right path to find my dream career. I thrive on helping others and, in this field, I have the opportunity to change someone’s life.
“I had a great experience at Iowa Wesleyan. I was guided toward an amazing internship that allowed me to apply what I was learning in the classroom to real world circumstances while gaining real world work experience. My Service Learning project allowed me to branch out in the local community and sharpen my networking skills, an invaluable experience with how important networking is in the job market post college.”
“The professors at Iowa Wesleyan genuinely care about me. I’ve had good instructors before but having those at IW who legitimately care about my individual progress, both in school and in life, has been above and beyond what I would have ever dreamed I would receive. This school has a culture of excellence and it shows.”
“The Digital Media and Design department is unlike any other. The smaller-sized classes make for a family-oriented learning experience and great relationships are built. The professors take each of us under their wing and make sure we are understanding the material to the fullest, which helps us advance in so many ways.”
