Iowa Wesleyan University Celebrates Awards Day; Outstanding Accomplishments
Iowa Wesleyan University held its annual Awards Day today featuring academic and student development leadership and service recognition. The program also included the prestigious President’s Award and Methodist Teacher of the Year Award and featured musical selections from the IW Music Department. Dr. DeWayne Frazier, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean; Dr. Wesley Brooks, Vice President of Student Development; Division Chairs; and Dr. Steven Titus, President of the University presented the awards.
“Awards Day is a vital day showcasing student and faculty success in our university. They have worked diligently to ensure the most creative and innovative outcomes throughout the year,” said Dr. DeWayne Frazier. “We honor the outstanding accomplishments and passion from within on this day.”
The President’s Award, the most prestigious award given to a student, is given to a senior who has consistently demonstrated a responsible and selfless use of talent and leadership through his or her involvement in campus activities throughout their entire undergraduate experience. Nominees must be high academic achievers with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 who have modeled exemplary academic effort and engagement. The 2016-2017 President’s Award was presented to Skylar Rodgers ’17.
The Academic Division Awards were given to outstanding students in addition to recognition provided for Student Development and Service Awards. They are:
- Tiger Spirit Award: Kyle Divelbiss
- Organization Advisor of the Year Award: Luis Aranda (Student Union Board) Emerging Leader of the Year Award: Christian Henriksen
- Unsung Hero Award: Amari Funderburg
- Student Leader of the Year Award: Caitlin O’Neill Student Organization of the Year Award: Cheerleading
- Spirit of Service Award: Claudia Villalobos and Brittany Nunez Sophomore Servant Award: Jazay McBride
- Service Scholar Award: Logan Scholtus
Jennifer Crull and Jennifer Bailey received the Adult & Graduate Studies Instructor of the Year Award; and Dr. David Johnson, Professor of Music, was presented the Methodist Teacher of the Year Award. For an inclusive list of all the award recipients, please visit iw.edu/awardsday.
